Protect Our Blue Planet

The Tancook Islands Marine Field Station was established by Dr. Nigel Hussey and Anna Hussey in 2021. Both Anna and Nigel have always had a passion for the marine environment ignited through swimming in the ocean as youngsters and later through scuba diving together in various locations around the world. Inspired by both the birth of their daughter Alina and spending extensive time diving with sharks off the Red Sea Coast of Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, Nigel returned to formal academic education to undertake a Masters and then PhD in Marine Biology focused on these amazing animals. Through that experience he was fortunate to live and work under the supervision of Dr Samuel Gruber at the Bimini Biological Field Station and experience the value of operating in a field station setting to truly understand the marine environment. The team therefore established the Tancook Islands Marine Field Station, a “living field lab” to provide unique opportunities for the next generation of marine scientists to undertake cutting edge research on marine species and their ecosystems off Nova Scotia, including the white shark (Carcharodon carcharias) and to provide education and outreach to ensure the protection of our Blue Planet. The Field Station, an incorporated not for profit organisation,  is affiliated with the HusseyLab at the University of Windsor, Ontario, Canada.
